This 4-day Workshop is designed as a prep course for the Instructor Certification Exam. We run this is a 4-day format while many folks run it in a 3-day format. We do this to maximize your learning experience.
We like to run our IDW in what we call a "Dress for Success" format. What we mean by this is that we try to give you the tools you need to be sucessful before we ask you to perform. For example, We do a presentation on day 1 on how to give effective feedback before we ask you to give people feedback on their presesntations. On day 2 we review proper stroke technique before we video tape your kayak strokes. We spend the afternoon on day 2 going over rescue techniques before we ask you to rescue someone on day 3 and so on.
Day 1 will be on dry land and cover such topics as: Lesson Planning, Giving Effective Feedback, What the ACA requires for Instructor certification and more. You will have the opportunity to present a topic and receive feedback on your presentation. You will also have the opportunity to practice giving effective feedback. Day 2 and 3 will be on the water all day.
Day 2 we will teach you effective ways to teach paddling as well as help you tune up your own skills. After lunch we will video tape your skills and practice kayak rescue techniques.
Day 3 we will have you leading the class around and responding to rescue scenarios using skills learned earlier in the workshop. You will be leading your group in wind and waves and possibly tidal current or surf conditions. (Waves less than 3 feet)
Day 4 will be spent on land giving final presentations
